A brief intro of laser skin treatments

Laser skin treatments, which are sometimes also called as skin resurfacing treatments, are those procedures which are performed to help treat a variety of skin related problems such as blemishes, acnes, scars, fine lines, spots, sunburns, etc. It especially proves very effective in the treatment of certain signs of ageing and treating other types of skin damage such as sun spots, uneven complexion and liver spots among others.

During the treatment, the doctor at laser clinic in Sydney will usually perform the procedure with the help of a handheld laser device. This device will be held very closer to the area of the body which needs to be treated. When the device is switched on, it sends a laser beam that penetrates the skin lawyers to remove the damaged cells. In most of the laser skin treatments, the vaporization of the upper most layer of the skin called epidermis takes place. When the vaporized skin heals, it reveals a very smooth and healthy surface underneath. Then there are other non ablative laser treatments as well which do not involve the vaporization of skin surface but instead focus on triggering the collagen growth by penetrating the deeper layers of the skin. This increased production of collagen help a great deal in treating certain signs of ageing such as fine lines and wrinkles. The main difference between these two procedures is that one focuses on external damage while the other focuses on treating the problem from inside.

When it comes to the benefits of these modern day laser skin treatments being performed at laser clinics, one of the biggest ones is that that they are relatively painless. The only discomfort you might experience would be in the form of a sensation which is very similar to a rubber band snapping against your skin. This is a sort of discomfort that can easily be dealt with and when you consider the long term benefits of this treatment, you will find that they are worth a bit of pain. Unlike most of the other cosmetic treatments on offer these days, laser based treatments require very little, if any, downtime. The skin does not get damaged to a great extent and therefore the healing process is very quick. However, you will need to exercise some caution after the treatment such as avoiding direct exposure to sunlight for a couple of days till your skin restores its normal condition.

Uncovering laser treatment myths

Many people are going for laser treatment in cities like Sydney and Adelaide these days, but there are still certain misconceptions about laser assisted therapy that continue to persist. This short piece of article is being written to debunk some of these myths so that any clouds of doubts or confusions you have regarding this therapy can be cleared.

When it comes to misperceptions about laser treatment one of the most common ones it that the higher the power of the laser device, the more effective will be the therapy. This is not true at all for the simple reason that power is not the only determining factor that decides the outcome of a laser based treatment. It is only one of the elements. There are other factors as well that need to be taken into consideration. These include frequency of the lasers, duty cycle, laser’s wave form and density of the energy among others. Therefore, it is the combination of all these parameters that decides how effective or ineffective the therapy would prove to be for you.

Another persisting myth about laser treatment is that LEDs and SLDs do not prove much effective when it comes to treating certain skin related problems or complications. What you probably need to understand is that lasers and SLDS have fundamental difference in the way they work or function. For instance, lasers are monochromatic in nature whereas SLDs output multiple band of wavelengths. Also, lasers are coherent in nature and are very much directional, thus making it easier for the specialists to focus it on a certain point for a considerable period of time. However, these fundamental differences in properties of SLDs and lasers do not make much of a difference as far as the outcome of the treatment is concerned.

One of the other common misconception about these treatments offered at clinics in Sydney I that only certain sets of wavelengths prove to be effective. This again is nothing but a huge misconception and it stems from the fact that people do not have enough knowledge about how laser based treatments actually work. The reality is that numerous studies have indicated that wavelength between 600nm and 900nm has been identified as pretty effective.

Many people also believe that frequency and duty cycle does not have much impact on the results, but that is not the case as these two are important and determining factors.
