A short introduction of IPL therapy

Before
After
The popularity of IPL hair removal treatment has witnessed a sudden rise in the past few years, and for obvious reasons. The treatment has now become a preferred option for all those people, including men, who want to get rid of their unwanted body hair in a painless manner. This treatment is considered as a breakthrough in the hair removal industry as not only is the treatment absolutely painless, but also provides permanent respite for unsightly body hair that become a cause of concern for a lot of people, especially women who prefer to have a hair free skin. However, the unfortunate part of the story is that despite the huge amount of popularity enjoyed by this revolutionary procedure, most of the people have very limited understanding of this treatment. In case, you also happen to have limited knowledge about IPL, then this article is for you.

IPL is basically a laser hair removal treatment. The full form of IPL is Intense Pulsed Light. It is sometimes also referred to as flash lamp therapy. The reason behind this name is the fact that the lasers or light emitted through machine in this procedure are used in flashes which are directed at the problem areas from where the hair are to be removed. The procedure is absolutely non-invasive. High intensity flashes of light are used for the hair removal, which remain visible to naked eyes.

The application of IPL is not only limited to removal of hair, however, as it is also used for treating other sorts of skin related problems as well. These skin related complications include spots, fine lines, freckles, hyper pigmentation as well as vascular lesions among others.

The therapy is very much similar to laser therapy. The high intensity light used for this procedure is capable of penetrating the upper layer of the skin. This light directly targets melanin, a pigment present in skin and hair follicle. By targeting melanin in hair follicles, it completely destroys them leading to their permanent death. However, it does not cause any harm to the surrounding tissues. Therefore, you need not worry about any sort of adverse effects after receiving this treatment. However, you will have to take certain precautions to prevent your skin from damage. For instance, direct exposure to sun light must be avoided for a few days after undergoing the IPL therapy. Also, one must not go for hair removal on large areas at a single go.
